Mumbai: The largest ruling party Shiv Sena in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) feels offended due to civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta giving no importance to Mayor and Sena corporator Vishwanath Mahadeshwar before planning any event or approving any plans from the civic body.
Rahul Shewale, Member of Parliament (MP) of Shiv Sena, stated that their party is unhappy with the commissioner’s approach towards the city mayor. He said, “The civic chief is disrespecting the position of Mayor and it’s not just an insult of a mayor but also of city, as he represents entire Mumbai.”
He further stated that soon Sena ethically would bring a no-confidence motion against Mehta in the general body meeting. “Meeting with all elected corporators from Sena would be held soon to decide the action plan,” Shewale added.
On Friday, BMC organised cleanliness programme at Crawford market and invited dignitaries but as per Sena claim the civic administration informed the mayor late on Thursday evening. Hence, no party representative from Sena participated in the cleaning drive, while civic chief and CM Devendra Fadnavis along with other officers and ministers participated. A party member claimed that it was not the first time that the mayor has been ignored.
Earlier also the mayor was side-lined like in the event of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who was invited to the BMC headquarters to inaugurate mission 24 initiative for Shivaji Nagar (M-East) ward. Also, the decision to execute cycle track on Mumbai roads was taken by CM and civic commissioner by themselves. Mehta said the Sena is factually incorrect.
