Mumbai: A 75-year-old lady and her 28-year-old daughter-in-law were found murdered at their residence at Nandgaon village near Panvel.

The septuagenarian, Sitabai Ramdas Khotle, and her daughter-in-law, Aparna Madhukar Khotle, were murdered at their residence at Panvel. The police have arrested Sitabai’s nephew Satish Narayan Khotle (34) and his friend Rajan Shravan Udre (38). The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at 12:45 p.m. The accused had entered the house and slit Sitabai’s neck and stabbed Aparna several times on the left side of her chest and stomach. Aparna’s husband Madhukar (30) was at work when the murder took place.

When Madhukar returned home late in the afternoon on Tuesday, he found the door ajar. When he entered the flat, he found Sitabai and Aparna lying in a pool of blood in the living room. Satish and Rajan have been arrested from a paddy field near Malegaon. They have been arrested for murder (Section 302), house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death (Section 449) and common intention (Section 34) of the Indian Penal Code. Aparna was a housewife and Sitabai was mostly home bound due to her old age.

According to Vinod Chavan, Senior Police Inspector, Panvel police station, “The motive of the murder is not known yet since Satish and Rajan are not co-operating. However, the duo have confessed to the crime. We have recorded the statement of Aparna’s husband. The murder is being probed from all the angles.” The police suspect that the motive behind the murder could be a financial or a property dispute.
