Mumbai: Security guard killed for resisting illegal fishing


MUMBAI : The Powai police have arrested two youth for stabbing a private security guard posted at the Powai lake.

The security guard was posted to keep a watch on illegal fishing that is carried out in this vicinity. The deceased has been identified as Shoaib Sanaullah Khan (50), who worked as a security supervisor with Moon Security Service. Both the accused have been identified as Tabrez Khan (26) and Salim Siddiqui (20).

The senior inspector of Powai police station, Bhai Keshav Mahadeshwar, told the Free Press Journal, “Tabrez and Salim have been indulging in illegal fishing in this lake. When Shoaib prevented them from fishing in Powai lake, they stabbed him and threw him in the lake on Monday night.”

“My husband was one of the three partners running this security company. My husband was on night patrolling when he spotted the net in the lake,” Asiya Khatoon, the wife of Shoaib, told the Free Press Journal.

The police and the fire brigade officials took more than 15 hours to fish out the body from the Powai lake. The body has been sent to Rajawadi hospital for post-mortem.

Sources in Powai have told the Free Press Journal that several cases have been registered against Tabrez in various police stations of Mumbai.
