Mumbai: Ruckus in BMC meeting over Kamala Mills fire

Mumbai: One week after the Kamala Mill fire mishap which killed 14 people the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) general body meeting which comprises 227 corporators from all parties slammed the civic body for working hand in glove. Corporators from all parties also alleged due to civic officials connivance illegal eateries, pubs, and restaurants are operating smoothly in the city.

Therefore, Kamala Mill blaze judicial inquiry should be done and also those officers who were involved under Enforcement Directorate (ED) their inquiry should be made is what been demanded on Friday. Due to fire safety lapses, Mumbaikars have to suffer and many have also lost their lives stated Ravi Raja the Leader Of Opposition (LOP) in the General Body meeting of BMC and pointed the finger on BMC administration. In addition, he said, “No action against the corrupt BMC officials has been taken whereas on contrary they are being protected by the Civic Commissioner Ajoy Mehta. Also, even after 22 days of Sakinaka fire incident were twelve labourers died the probe report has not yet been prepared neither the Kurla ward officers been punished.”

Supporting LOP of BMC Ravi Raja, Prakash Gangadhare the Bharatiya Janta Party(BJP) corporator suggested General body civic house like the state government has started Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) which keeps a control on builders and developers, in a similar way the pubs and restaurants and hotels should be controlled under RERA. Meanwhile, the Group Leader of BJP Manoj Kotak demanded strict action against illegal shops and establishments and also demanded a judicial probe and ED inquiry against corrupt officials.
