Mumbai: The Special National Investigating Agency (NIA) Court on Thursday has issued Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against the controversial Islamic Preacher Dr Zakir Naik in a terror case for his alleged role in it.
The NIA had registered the case under Unlawful Activities of Prevention act (UAPA), last year for his alleged role in promoting enmity and hatred through his lectures and speeches.
Following the Dhaka attack, the agency had registered a case against him and some officials of his organisation, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), under section 153-A of IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and the Additional Session Judge pronounced order and said, “The open dated Non-baialble Warrant is issued against Zakir Naik.”
The agency through its counsel Geeta Godmbe said,” Three summons were sent in the past two months to Zakir Naik however he has not responded to any of it. Also, has fled the country last year.”
Eventually, the Special NIA court issued NBW and agency is to get Interpol to issue Red Corner notice against Dr Naik. The agency claims that Naik left the country to evade arrest after allegations cropped up by the preparators of Dhaka terror attack claimed that they were inspired by Zakir Naik.
