Mumbai: The management of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) displayed its new luxurious air-conditioned volvo bus named “Shivashahi” on Friday. These buses were shown to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis and State Transport Minister Diwakar Raote. At least two new buses were kept for display at Assemby ground near Mantralaya. These buses are equipped with facilities like charging point, push- back seats, seat belts for the passengers.

These buses are 45-seater with reclining seats for the convenience of passengers. “These luxurious buses are also equipped with facilities like onboard infotainment (display for movies and video songs). These buses have already started operating from the route between Mumbai to Ratnagiri,” said an MSRTC official. At least 2,000 such buses will start operating in the state from December onwards. The State Transport buses have set affordable rates for the passengers travelling on this route from Saturday onwards.

“The ticket rates would be affordable and Rs 556 has been finalised for the route between Mumbai to Ratnagiri. The rates are cheaper than the Shivneri volvo buses which operate on the routes between Mumbai to Pune. The Shivneri buses charge atleast Rs 1,100 for the route between Mumbai to Pune,” said Abhijeet Bhosale, Public Relations Officer of MSRTC. The MSRTC officials said that these buses were being operated to deter the passengers from opting the other private buses operators who charge exorbitantly for the same route. The Shivashahi buses will soon start operating on routes between Pune to Latur and Pune to Beed from July onwards.
