Mumbai: MMRDA uncertain about nod to MHADA on housing project

Mumbai: Hurdles have always been a part of several government projects. In what seems to be as delaying the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s ambitous project to construct higher income group homes in the plush Bandra Kurla Complex, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is reconfirming with the state government to seek clarity on the Floor Space Index to be granted to the housing project.

The MMRDA is supposed to grant approvals to MHADA for this project. Interestingly, the urban development department has replied, stating that there is no need to clarify the FSI since it has already been granted and has been conveyed earlier. Real estate experts said that it is clear that the authority is procrastinating. The proposal to construct the houses is tabled since 2005 for which MHADA is regularly following up to get all the necessary permissions from MMRDA.

The authority is planning to redevelop the Bharat Nagar transit camp and construct 280 luxurious flats at the prime plot measuring 18,000 square metres. The flats of the luxurious housing project will be nearly 1000 square feet each. The transit camp is nearly 30-years-old and most of the houses are in a dilapidated condition.  The move will impact over 700 families.
