Mumbai: The Charkop police have arrested a 24-year-old man for raping a minor girl, who is now 27 weeks pregnant. The pregnancy of minor came to light after she underwent obesity tests. After learning the medical report, her mother registered First Information Report (FIR) at Charkop police station and subsequently Ravichandran Pereira was arrested.

“The victim had started gaining weight, which her mother initially thought may be due to thyroid. But after few weeks, her mother suspected something unusual and took her daughter for medical examination. The girl is reeling under deep state of shock after the medical test report reveals that she is 27-week pregnant,” said one of her neighbours. India’s restrictive abortion laws in cases of rape have restricted victim to terminate the foetus as it has crossed the permissible limit of 24 weeks. Police tried to get the names of the accused but she is tight-lipped. The investigators quizzed her neighbours to know the accused.
