Mumbai: A five-year-old leopard strayed into an open gymnasium located in the Maharashtra State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) camp at Aarey Colony in suburban Goregaon yesterday, a Forest official said today. The big cat was rescued and shifted to a cage by Forest personnel after they managed to tranquilise it.

“Our control room received the information about a leopard straying into the gym at 8.30 AM on Sunday. Two teams from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and the Thane forest department were rushed to the spot. They tranquilised the big cat before shifting it in a cage,” a Forest official said.

The tranquilised feline was shifted to a cage which was taken to the leopard rescue centre in the SGNP, he said, adding that nobody was present in the gym when the wild cat showed up. In the recent past, three similar incidents of leopards straying into human habitats located nearby the colony were reported.
