Mumbai: A gang of around 15 people attacked an NGO staff who was returning empty handed after conducting ‘raid’ at Thane-based dance bar, Night Queen, where two minor girls were reportedly trafficked to work. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The 42-year-old victim Nitin Mungekar has been admitted to nearby hospital where he is recuperating. He has sustained injuries on his head, leg and right hand. According to the Mungekar’s colleague Ashok, “The gang of 15 people came in car and motorcycle, overtook Mungekar’s car and assaulted him with hockey sticks.”

They also damaged Mungekar’s car, said Ashok, who added, “We the Rescue Foundation has been working for the welfare of children and women who are forced into illegal business. We conduct raids only after we have concrete information about ongoing illegal racket.”

“This happens every time when we conduct raids with local police station the raid info gets leaked,” alleged Ashok. The case against unknown persons has been registered in Kasarwadali police station of Thane district.

“Victim’s driver lost control over the vehicle and hit the car on divider,” said an officer from Kasar Wadali police station.

However, no arrest has been made so far but the local police are studying the CCTV footage of the place of crime.
