Students will now have to wait for a little longer as the third merit list of the first year junior college (FYJC) has been postponed till July 31. The third merit list was supposed to be declared today (July 26) but according to the official website it has been postponed as the Nagpur bench of the Bombay HC has allowed minority FYJC colleges to surrender in-house quota seats.

Around 12,000 seats under the in-house quota are lying vacant in colleges. And over 60,000 seats are lying vacant under minority quota while 7,000 seats in management quota. A notification on the official website said, “In light of the decision by Hon’ble High Court, allocation list for round-3 will be declared on 31st July, at 11 AM. Revised vacancy list will be declared on 27th July, 11.30 AM and students will be allowed to edit their choices from 27th July 11.30 AM to 28th July, at 6 PM.”

Rajendra Ahire, deputy director of education, Mumbai region told Asian Age, “As of now, no decision has been taken regarding the vacant minority seats. However, the vacant seats under the in-house quota in the colleges will be asked to transfer to us (department), and in this way the number of seats in the general category for the open category students in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) will increase and it will be better for the students who are looking for admissions.”
