Mumbai: A minor fire broke out in a two-storey building in Fort area near Ballard Pier on Thursday morning. No injuries were reported. The fire started around 11.15 am owing to short-circuit on the first floor of an old-office building, Sant Niwas, on Goa Street.
Two fire engines were pressed into service to control the flames, which were brought under control by 11.50am.
A senior official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster management cell said that initially they suspected the fire started in an air-conditioning duct. Final cause as to what led to the incident would be known later.
Notably, a major fire had erupted last month at Scindia House, Ballard Estate. The Fort area houses among others, the Income-Tax and debt recovery tribunal offices.
