On Thursday, a man was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 3-year-old boy. The man, who used to regularly visit the boy’s place, raped and also attempted to murder the boy in 2015.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the accused was identified as Hasan Shaikh, who was 20 at time of the incident. On the day of the incident, it was the victim’s grandmother who alerted his father that the boy was nowhere to be found and also that Shaikh had visited their house only 15 minutes ago. After this, the boy’s father started looking for him, and later hired a rickshaw driver who said he saw Shaikh near the bus depot and took the boy’s father there.

Later, when they reached, the boy’s father saw a mob had gathered near the jungle close to the depot.  When he took a closer look, he found that people were bathing his son, who was covered in mud and blood. The crowd told him how his son was strangulated by Shaikh and left to die in the mud. The crowd had already seized Shaikh on finding the boy had injuries on the head and private parts.

The boy was later taken to Sion Hospital where he was treated for one-and-a-half months. The Court, on Thursday, held Hasan Shaikh, guilty under Section 377 (unnatural sex), 363 (kidnapping) and 307 (attempt to murder), and for aggravated sexual assault under the Special Act, and was sentenced to life imprisonment for strangulating the child.
