Mumbai Civic polls: Uddhav Thackeray meets Akhil Bharatiya Sena candidate Geeta Gawli at Matoshree

The Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS) party candidate Geeta Gawli who won from Byculla in the recent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections (BMC) was called to ‘Matoshree’, the Thackeray residence, for talks on Thursday afternoon. The meeting was called to seek her support for the Sena mayor’s candidate. However, sources from the party said that Gawli has put forth certain conditions to Sena and the talks currently remain inconclusive. Mumbai gangster Arun Gawli’s daughter Geeta was recently re-elected from the Byculla constituency who fought against the formidable All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) candidate Noor Saba Qureshi.

Meanwhile, the four independent corporators who have won seats in the elections have already pledged their support to Sena for retaining their power. Both the saffron parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sena are now trying to seek Geeta’s support to increase their strength prior to the Mayoral election slated to be held on March 8.

A party insider from Sena said, “Geeta has demanded one term chairmanship of Health Committee and also wants to be made a member to the Standing Committee..”

Speaking to Free Press Journal, Geeta said, “I was called to Matoshree by Uddhav Thackeray. While Ashish Shelar, the BJP city president and Prasad Lad, the state executive leader are in constant contact with me. However, I am yet to decide my strategy as to which party I will support.”
