Mumbai: BMC failed to spend budget allocation for disabled, alleges Kadu

Mumbai: Independent MLA from Achalpur Bacchu Kadu on Friday meets BMC Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Sanjay Mukherjee regarding non-utilisation of funds allotted for disabled citizens in civic budget. He alleged that BMC has failed to use the reserved money. Kadu along with his party members gave twenty-day deadline to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials to chart out proper plans for the expenditure of three per cent budget.

Manoj Tekade, working president of Prahar Party formed by MLA Bacchu Kadu in Mumbai, said, “BMC has failed to utilise funds reserved for differently abled citizens like to develop Braille script in blind schools, special hostels for mentally challenged students, and facilities in Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, toilets facility, etc.” He further added, “Instead of utilising the reserved funds on differently abled people, the funds moreover were used on roads repairing and other work. We took several meetings with officers but they are failing to give us a valid answer so far and hence, a final deadline has been given to them.”

The party has decided to stage a protest if the BMC fails to comply with their demand within the given stipulated time.
