Mumbai: BMC chief Ajoy Mehta backs off from ‘Bungalow’ row

Mumbai: After Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP)-led state government cleared its stand to allow former Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Pallavi Darade to reside in the Malabar hill civic bungalow by asking the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) not to issue further notices. The BMC chief Ajoy Mehta is now likely to table list of alternate plots for the Mayor’s new bungalow construction in the special group leaders meeting which is scheduled on Wednesday.

According to BMC source, the plots which will be suggested have municipal housing reservation. There are around 20 such plots available with the BMC is various areas of Mumbai like Byculla, Malabar Hill, Lower Parel, Sion, Chembur and Ghatkopar. While, other plots may also be considered like the one at Mahalaxmi where the BMC had recently proposed a gymkhana for its officials which met with strong objection and another at Worli where currently the rifle club is to set up.
