Mumbai: The Central Railways have planned to install a total number of at least 300 additional Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) on both the main and harbour line. The tenders for installing the ATVM machines would be issued next week. These machines would be installed at more than 90 stations on the Central Railway line. At present, there are at least 490 machines installed on the Central line.
Central Railway officials said that these machines were being installed in order to reduce the rush at ticket counters. The installation of ATVM machines would also encourage the commuters to purchase smart cards on which they can earn bonus points. The commuters were glad to know that these machines will help in avoiding the long queues at the ticket counters.
“It is a good move by Central Railways to install more ATVM machines. The authorities must also look into maintenance of these machines as many are not working on few stations,” said Jayant Rane, a commuter at Thane railway station. The officials said that these machines could not be repaired as their spare parts were not available. “We will start repairing the ticket vending machine in a fortnight,” said a central railway official.
