Mumbai: In the fifth tree collapse death in the city this monsoon, a huge peepal tree branch fell on an auto-rickshaw killing occupant Ravi Shah (31) and grievously injuring two others in Mulund on Tuesday afternoon.
According to BMC’s disaster cell, the incident happened around 2.14 pm when the auto-rickshaw was parked at Gurugovind Singh Road in Mulund Colony. Autorickshaw driver Chandrabhan Gupta, 40, is in a critical condition and being treated at Sion Hospital while the other passenger, the deceased’s wife Urvi Shah, 27, has been admitted to Mulund’s Agarwal Hospital with a serious head injury. T-ward’s assistant municipal commissioner Kishor Gandhi said, “The tree was located on a public road.”
There have been a rising number of tree fall deaths since the onset of monsoon. In the other tree fall deaths, Parshuram Victor Bastin, 74, died at MG Road near Metro theatre, Marine Drive; a 50-year-old man died in Andheri last month; 13-year-old Drushti Mungra died in Dahisar; and in June a 90-year-old woman died near Banganga in Walkeshwar.
