Mumbai: There has been a lot of critic-ism from the citizens and civic corporators over pothole menace. The MCGM will finalise the best method to fix potholes within two weeks, as it has to submit a status report to the HC on August 20. The civic body has been experimenting with new technologies, which is in return resulting in poor results. The two technologies out of the three used to treat pot-holes have not stood up to the expectations of the citizens.

A senior civic official on the condition of anonymity said, “The third technology with company named- A R Thermo from Austria to bring more material as we (MCGM) have been keeping a watch and have observed that the technology is showing satisfactory results with few potholes being filled.”

There has been a rise in the number of potholes as the city has been witnessing heavy rainfall. More than 3000 potholes have been reported across the city so far. Potholes have led to heavy traffic jams and creating a huge trouble for the Mumbaikars to commute.

A senior civic official from civic body said, “The three companies AR Thermo, Shalimar and Eco Green—have been used in eastern, western and Island City so far for fixing the potholes. The sample of Shalimar has washed out and sample of Eco Green used in island City was unable to figure out. Hence it has become difficult to identify. A check on the quality of the material for filling the potholes has to be kept.

A corporator from Chembur alleged that, “The civic body has been fooling the tax payers of the city, by giving us bad roads every year. The situation is pathetic on the roads.”
