Manjula Shetye death: Chargesheet likely to be filed today

Mumbai: After repeated delays in filing the chargesheet in Manjula Shetye murder case, the Mumbai police crime branch is likely to submit a chargesheet at the Metropolitan Magistrate court on Wednesday. Shetye was a convict housed at Byculla jail. Shetye was killed on June 23. After the murder, Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in Sheena Bora case led a protest of women convicts on the jail terrace. In fact Indrani drew the attention to the murder and had accused the jail officials of even beating her. Indrani’s name has been mentioned in the chargesheet.

The 990-page chargesheet includes statements of 182 eye-witnesses. However, there is no mention of any sexual assault against Shetye by the jail officials in it. The recordings of CCTV footage will also be submitted with the chargesheet to the court. A questionnaire was issued by the Mumbai crime branch to Byculla jail inmates for recording their statements.
