Mumbai: Congress state secretary Sanjay Choupane died in a road accident while returning from the centenary program of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Aurangabad on Sunday evening. Three others including party leaders and driver of the car were also injured.
According to Abhijeet Deshmukh, media coordinator of Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, leader of opposition, Chouapane along with Balkrishna Purnekar, city president of Thane Congress and Ramakant Mhatre, former Deputy Mayor of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation left for Mumbai in the evening. “They attended the Indiara Gandhi Centenary program organised by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee in Aurangabad.”
Deshmukh added, “On Aurangabad-Gangapur road near Bhendala Phata, a motorcycle crossed the car from wrong side. Driver tried to save the bike, crossed the divider and reached on other side of the highway. Suddenly, private luxury dashed the car in which Chopane died on the spot. Purnekar thrown outside the car, his condition is critical.” Mhatre had head injury and the driver Baldeep Singh Bishwa too injured in the accident.
