Kirti Somaiya attack, 2 more held in Mumbai

Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested two more people in connection with the alleged attack on BJP MP Kirit Somaiya.

According to Navghar police station Senior PI Madhav More, accused Aniket Yerunkar (26) and Sanjay Jadhav(25) have been arrested for rioting and assault.

The Navghar police have so far arrested 16 people in connection with the assault in which some BJP workers were injured.

Somaiya had earlier alleged that Shiv Sena workers tried to “kill” him. The incident had happened at a Dussehra rally at Neelam Nagar. Seven BJP workers, including three women, were allegedly attacked with bamboo sticks.

On the Dussehra day, Shiv Sena workers had allegedly disrupted a programme organised by Somaiya, where an effigy of “corruption mafia in MCGM” was to be burnt to mark the festival of Dussehra. Sena activists objected to the effigy burning as they were in power in the civic body.

In their effort to not allow the effigy burning, they tried to stop the programme itself. However, the police had intervened and brought the situation under control.
