Mumbai: The sessions court here today gave interim protection from arrest to a senior Indian Revenue Service official who is facing a case of molestation. “The court today gave interim protection from arrest to Sridhar R S (41), Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, till February 26,” public prosecutor Nileema Kasture told PTI. A 25-year-old lady chartered accountant, who was working with Sridhar for some time, has filed a complaint that he often sent objectionable messages and pictures on her mobile phone between July 2014 and January 2015.

The Azad Maidan police station in south Mumbai on January 12 registered a case for molestation and criminal intimidation under Indian Penal Code and also under Information Technology Act against him. Police also pressed provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act after the complainant’s sister, a minor, alleged that she too had received objectionable messages and pictures from Sridhar.

The Income Tax officer, in his pre-arrest bail application, has denied that he ever sent such messages and pictures and claimed that he is being framed up. Advocate Mahesh Vaswani, the woman’s lawyer, said the court had directed the accused not to enter the victim’s house, and report at the police station twice a week.
