Mumbai: In order to curb the menace of stunts performed in local trains, rooftop travelling and track crossing, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has kicked off a week-long campaign and awareness drive between November 28 and December 4.
The Mumbai GRP believes that the cases of rooftop death due to electrocution, line crossing, falling off from running trains and falling in the gaps of platforms and footboard of trains have come down.
GRP will be conducting educational programmes and will address college students on the safety issues.
“This campaign will spread awareness among commuters what measures should one take to avoid accidents while travelling in local trains,” said Deepak Devraj, DCP GRP (Western Railway).
“Talking on the actions on railway rule violators will be regular process but apart from taking action the awareness programme will also be conducted,” he said.
Statistics provided by the GRP revealed that 2,799 persons have died in railway related deaths till October this year.GRP starts campaign against stunts on trains
