Global Citizen Live: Big B and Farhan shares stage, A R Rahman charms audience

After the power-packed performances by Demi Lovato, Shraddha Kapoor, Monali Thakur and Arijit Singh, the festival took a serious turn with Amitabh Bachchan reciting a poem which was a tribute to Indian women. Followed by which he performed with the Shillong Choir. Big B also sung a track from his recent film Pink.

Highlight of the day: Big B shared the stage with Farhan Akhtar and sang ‘Atrangi Yaari’ from their film ‘Wazir’.

Not all B-towners are at Global Citizen Festival to perform. Sonam Kapoor was seen giving a speech on gender equality. The Kapoor girl during her media interaction said, “I’m excited about the initiative today. Happy that Coldplay is also lending support.”

Vidya Balan appeared on stage to talk about water and sanitation. She said, “The fact is 44% of India doesn’t have access to safe water! These basic rights are distant dreams for them.” She further added, “The Government has been working tirelessly to make sure that everyone gets access to water and sanitation.” Vidya concluded her speech by introducing Sarpanch Chandu Patil, the brain behind the Rajgadh movement.

Vivek Oberoi also shared his views on girl education.

Kweku Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela, shared words from his grandfather. He said, “Education is the most powerful weapon that we can use to change the world.” The event got a huge kick when Mandela shouted out loud ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai!

Later, King Khan of Bollywood dressed casually in a white T-shirt and cargo addressed the crowd and invited the legend A R Rahman on the stage. Rahman mesmerized the audience with his track ‘Dil Se’ and ‘Humma Humma’.

Hugh Evans, Founder of Global Citizen, talking about the concert said, “All the commitments announced this evening are set to affect 250 million lives.” He even invited MP Poonam Mahajan to share her views about the movement.

The Global Citizen fest also featured international rock band The Vamps. After them, Jay Z’s performance with his classic spins ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ and Punjabi song ‘Mundeya Toh Bach ke Rahe stunned the audience.
