During the Global Citizen Festival happening today at Mumbai’s MMRDA Ground, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the youth through video conferencing.

Modi resumed his speech by saying, “I know I am standing between you and Coldplay so I’ll make this brief.” He further said that, “Back in 2014, I enjoyed attending Global Citizen Fest in New York, this time around my schedule didn’t permit me to come in person.”

In an effort to connect with the youth PM said, “I always look forward to being among young people. It refreshes and re-energizes me. You bring an energy that is unparalleled.”

Later on a smart ‘note’ Modi said, “You’ve been smart in asking me to only address gathering and not sing; or else I am sure you’d be asking me money back that too in Rs 100 notes.” He also thanked the citizen for working shoulder to shoulder in the cleanliness drive.

Prior to PM’s speech, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis addressed the gathering and promised to make Maharashtra the cleanest state. He assured the citizen to fulfill three promises –toilets for all till March 2018, spending Rs 142 crore to fight extreme poverty and making 10 lakh homes for the homeless. He concluded his speech by saying, “I will always fight for corruption free Maharashtra.”

Post the speech, King Khan of Bollywood welcomed Slumdog Millionaire actress Frieda Pinto and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar on stage. Tendulkar shared his experience of learning guitar from Chris and their visit to Shri Gadge Maharaj Vidyalaya on November 18.

Post the fun moments the trio gave a smashing introduction to the amazing Coldplay band and finally the much awaited 90-minute performance of the rock band began with a bang.
