Gangster Shyam Dabhade, aide killed in ‘encounter’


Pune: Shyam Dabhade, the most dreaded criminal, also wanted in the murder of former president of Talegaon-Dabhade Municipal Corporation who was from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was killed in an encounter by Pune (rural) crime detection branch.

The incident occurred near Chakan, in the Varsai Devi hill area. Dabhade with his accomplice Dhananjay Shinde is alleged to have first opened fire on the police. Dabhade was a 40-year-old criminal who lived in Koteshwar Wadi, Taluka Maval, District Pune. The police received a tip off that Dabhade and his accomplice were hiding in the Varsai hilly region. Subsequently, police tricked him and after surrounding him asked him to surrender. Instead Dabhade and Shinde are alleged to have fired nine bullets on the police.

The police were led by Ram Jadhav, Senior Police Inspector of Pune (rural) crime detection team. After his team was fired upon, Jadhav led the attack on Dabhade and Shinde by firing 5 bullets on them. Both died on the spot.

The police found four pistols, country made revolver and 42 live bullets.

There are numerous crimes registered against Dabhade in Vadgaon, Maval, Talegaon-Dabhade, Dehu Road, Chakan Bhadrakali (Nasik), Vapi (Nasik), Khadki, Nigid police stations.

On October 16 this year, Dabhade had killed Sachin Shelke, BJP councillor and former president of Talegaon-Dabhade Municipal Corporation, in broad daylight. Dabhade was also the main accused in killing of Right to Information activist, Satish Shetty. Dabhade also served a jail term in Shetty’s murder case.
