Expect civic e-libraries soon in Mira Bhayandar

Bhayandar : Those using municipal libraries in Mira-Bhayandar will soon be able to access reading material at the click of a mouse.

In an attempt to rekindle the habit of reading and introduce the new concept of libraries in a digital format, where innumerable books can be easily accessed, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) will set up e-libraries in the twin-city. Currently, the MBMC operates four public libraries and five study rooms across the region.

As per an elaborate digital reading plan chalked out by the civic administration, a dedicated computer trial lab is taking shape at the library situated in the community hall building in Bhayandar (West). After evaluating the success of the pilot project, the facility will be extended to all existing municipal libraries.

The e-version of the traditional library is expected to be operational within two to three months, officials said. “There are many students who are keen on higher studies but cannot afford to buy books or have access to the Internet. For them the e-library is the solution,” said Mayor Geeta Jain, who is personally monitoring the day-to-day status of the work.

Apart from online e-books and magazines, the systems in the e-library will be loaded with reading material that can be accessed offline. However, the administration has also trained it’s focus on protecting users from obscene and harmful online content through advanced filtering techniques.
