Anybody found violating rules and regulations governing bursting of crackers can face imprisonment up to five years or a fine up to Rs 1 lakh, or both
Mumbai : The Mumbai police have issued certain guidelines for bursting crackers this Diwali. The norms also apply foruse of loudspeakers.
Issuing a circular on Saturday, the city police said, “During Diwali, bursting of firecrackers is allowed from 6 am to 10 pm ( for all days of Diwali). However, Mumbaikars need to abide by the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Act, 2000 with regard to maintaining the permissible levels of noise.
“Also, the guidelines are to be maintained as per the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 while bursting firecrackers.”
Anybody found violating the rules and regulations can face imprisonment up to five years or a fine up to Rs 1 lakh, or both.
“On October 30 Lakshmipujan day, the use of loudspeakers is allowed from 6 am to 12 midnight. However, the use of loudspeakers should be in accordance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Act, 2000,” said Ashok Dudhe, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mumbai Police spokesperson.
