Bhayandar: Trouble does not seem to end for the local BJP unit of Mira Bhayandar. After facing sharp criticism for hosting a bash to celebrate the birthday of a corporator on a day when Major Kaustubh Rane attained martyrdom, the BJP is now under a storm for trying to garner cheap political mileage by publicising state government’s financial aid to the late Major’s family.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced a monetary compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the kin of attained martyrdom by sacrificing his life fighting a heroic battle against militants at the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on August 7.
Mayor Dimple Mehta who has also moved a proposal before the civic administration seeking nod to extend financial assistance of Rs 11 lakh for the major’s family on behalf of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) was quick to issue a press release in this context. Posts with photos of BJP leaders claiming credit of the mandated government’s financial aid circulated in social media platforms. However, this invited the wrath of netizens who reacted strongly to the cheap tactics.
It should be noted that the MBMC has already made an announcement of constructing a memorial outside the Mira Road railway station as a tribute to the martyr. This apart from offering job for a family member and taking care of the education expenses of the martyr’s two-year-old son. Natives of Sadure village in Vaibhavwadi taluka of Sindhudurg district, the Rane family has been staying in the Hiral Sagar building located in Sheetal Nagar area of Mira Road since 1990.
Posthumous state award for Major Rane handed over to family
Thane: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday handed over its ‘Gaurav Puraskar’ award to the family of Major Kaustubh Rane who was killed in Jammu and Kashmir in an anti-terrorist operation.
The award consists of a citation and cash. A cheque of Rs 6 lakh was on Wednesday handed to Major Rane’s wife by the district Sainik Welfare Officer at the family’s residence in Mira Road area near here, an official release said.
The proposal for giving award to Major Rane came before the state government after he received a gallantry award on January 26 this year, but it was approved posthumously, the release said.
