Mumbai: After fighting a legal battle for a few months, television actor Sachin Pilgaonkar has finally received Rs 34 lakh as reimbursement from a Pune-based businesswoman, Anagha Borikar.
Borikar had duped Pilgaonkar and his wife Supriya of Rs 35 lakh in November 2015 on the pretext of booking a BMW car.
The couple had filed an FIR in Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch, against Borikar.
In a bid to evade arrest, Borikar had applied for anticipatory bail in the Bombay HC after her plea was rejected by a lower court. During the hearing on her application, her lawyer informed the court that she was ready to deposit Rs 34 lakh as compensation to Pilgaonkar and his wife.
Subsequently, Pilgaonkar told the division bench headed by Justice Abhay S Oka, to quash the FIR against Borikar. Pilgaonkar’s lawyer, Swapna Kode, had informed the court that both the parties have decided to settle the matter mutually.
Accordingly, the HC in April this year disposed off the petition and directed Borikar to deposit the said amount. Pursuant to the court’s orders, Borikar not only deposited Rs 34 lakh but also apologised to the couple.
“The accused in this case had deposited Rs 34 lakh in form of a Demand Draft, in the month of April,” said Kode, who represented Pilgaonkar. She added, “As there is a process to withdraw the money which is deposited, my client received the amount on Tuesday, this week.”
Borikar who had met Pilgaonkar at a sports event had told the actor that she sold new luxury cars at half price.
Accordingly, Pilgaonkar had asked for a BMW which she had assured him for Rs 35 lakh and initially took a cheque of Rs 3 lakh from the actor to book the BMW in the name of a car dealer in Andheri. Borikar had submitted the cheque of the booking amount to the dealer and told him to give a car for a test drive. Since the incident took place in month of November, it was Diwali festival when the dealer had sent the car for a test drive at the actor’s place. Pilgaonkar, who was unaware of the fraud and thought the new car, had been sent by Borikar. He also performed a puja and paid the remaining Rs 35 lakh to Borikar. After two days, the BMW dealer’s staff arrived to collect the car, when he realised he had been cheated.
