7th Pay Commission: Labour union seeks raise for BMC labourers in Mumbai


Mumbai: The Brihunmumbai Labour Union (BLU) on Thursday requested the civic chief Ajoy Mehta to increase the wages of labourers working in Brihunmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The union also requested Mehta to provide more allowances like House Rent, travel allowance and so on. Moreover the BLU urged the commissioner to form ‘Wages Improvement Committee’ before the code of conduct is implemented this month.

The labour Union also accused the government for omitting a crucial category of employees from availing benefits of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. This includes employees working for government corporations, autonomous bodies, municipalities, panchayats, societies and other public sector undertakings.

Ramakant Bane, Assistant Secretary of Labour Union said, “The employees have a right on the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations as the present salary is inadequate considering the inflation ridden economy and price of commodities.”
