Coloursalways add a special touch to any attire and these days, sterling silver has become a rage all over. It is seen on ramp many a times this season, right from jackets to pleats and hybrids. But it is not a colour that you can wear randomly and so we have designers suggesting ways to wear this colour in style.
One can surely call sterling silver an interesting colour for the clothes. Designer,RiddhimaKollare reveals, “The color stands out and adds an instant oomph to any outfit. I do a lot of Indo-western styles and the color gives me a lot of room to experiment with. Since my designs are more intricate, I prefer opting for pops of silver and metallic accents focused on one aspect of the garment.”
Sneha Mehta, founder of the label Kukoon, too feels versatile sterling silver acts like a nice break. “One can also use silver buttons on garments and accessorize in the right way. Military jackets are known for their buttons and if done in a silver colour, it stands out. And a full silvergarment in the form of a gown would definitely make for a stand out piece.”
Nidhi Yadav, the creative head & founder of AKS Ethnic Wear, senses that sterling silver color scheme helps keep things simple & elegant. “It signifies the wearer loves adventure. It works best if your dress is light, shimmering hue of silver or shade of grey that effortlessly complements any wedding palette, suitable for all skin tone due to its neutral undertones. A loud silver dress is a bold fashion move to go with, and your necklace should not compete with your dress.”
Sneha has seen quite a few designers incorporate sterling silver from a range of attires. “Bold, bright, metallic pieces are a statement and one should own some garments from this shade. Just like Shantanu and Nikhil did a grey gown for Dia Mirza for one of the events, it looked pretty amazing – it was a plain silver color and that is it.”
Nidhi too has seen quite a few of the best Indian designers lavishly showcasing their exclusive designs for men & women. “Reputed celebs and models were seen in metallic shades – metallic high neck with chic cut-out, metallic silver suits, the perfect look for party season, and a gorgeous midi-length silver dress, with a thin black belt, metallic waistcoat over your cotton white shirt.”
Riddhima feels silver can make the simplest of outfits lively. “I have seen designers’ pair different styles of sterling silver skirts with solid colored tees and making it appear absolutely chic. Designers are giving a modern twist to classic quilted jackets, which have been trending this year.”

For a bolder look, diamonds look best when paired with other feminine pieces, and many black and gunmetal pieces are too masculine to coordinate well.”
Riddhima is of the view that silver goes with anything. “A classic western look could be a structured, flowy sterling silver gown. A silver crop top/blouse would work like a neutral when paired with loud prints or bold primary colors for a contrast Indian-wear pick. As for men, they can incorporate this trend in the form of bomber jackets, sneakers, ties or even experiment with their belts.” She recommends accessories like statement earrings, shoes, and clutch or rings to highlight the shiny feature.

Men can opt for grey/silver tone bandhgalas keeping in mind the festive season. Silver is also a great party colour. Solange Knowles recently wore a silver pant suit to an event and looked stunning. If you want to break solid colours, use accessories with silver chains, necklaces. Even a nice scarf can help break the monotony. Pick shades of this colour that complement your skin tone and be careful about choosing the right colour.”
Riddhima wants you to understand the concept of how much is too much. “High-shine dresses, skirts or co-ordinates, this trend can be as wearable as you like. Choose one aspect of your attire that you want to highlight and go with it.”
Sneha feels people shy away from mixing gold & silver. “But if done correctly, one can look like a molten goddess! Make sure your outfit is not overwhelming. Carry it off with confidence and be comfortable with what you wear.”Nidhi wants everyone to shun extravagant diamond necklaces above the dress’s neckline. “Also, avoid shoes with a chunky platform heel.”
