Ujjain: To fight the menace of malnutrition amongst women and children, the Integrated Child Development Service department conducted the ‘poshan ahaar mela’ on Wednesday. The purpose of the event was to provide holistic knowledge to women about making nutritious food.
Women who participated in the event were categorized into four groups, preparing salad, ‘chatni’, nutritious thali and take home ration. Women from many organizations and anganwadis participated in the event and made dishes without compromising on its nutrition value. Guests, Mayor Meena Jonwal, municipal speaker Sonu Gehlot, Dr CL Pasi, Rajeev Gupta and Rajni Kotwani tasted the dishes and marked them on parameters of taste and nutrition value.
A seminar was also held, in which food experts explained to participants how to prepare nutritious at home. A street play was also staged to spread awareness on healthy food. Winners in different categories were also given prizes. In the nutritious thali category, Harsha Chawda, Neema Gupta and Savita Bhawsar bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. In salad category, Neetu Bhatevada, Kiran Rathore and Rajni Sharma received prizes; in the chatni category, Renu Jinwal, Seema Saurav and Ayushi Chouhan while Hemlata Rimjha, Sulochana Saini and Bhawana received prizes in the take home ration category.
