Ujjain: Congress workers take to streets to protest hike in price of petroleum products

Ujjain: City Congress committee and its block units organised a dharna at different places here on Wednesday in protest against steep hike in the rates of petrol and diesel. Despite strict police ‘bandobast’, the party workers somehow managed to burn the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a mark of their protest.

Daulatganj-Sarafa block Congress committee held a demonstration in front of Prakash Petrol Pump at Koyla Phatak. The agitators raised slogans against the NaMo government and held it responsible for inflation. They also demanded immediate withdrawal of hike in prices of petroleum products. Prominent among those present included Rajendra Bharti, Anant Narayan Meena, Ravi Rai, Arun Rochwani, Anju Jatwa, Azam Shaikh and others.

PM Modi’s effigy was burnt at Gudri Choraha under the aegis of Maharajwada-Kartik Chowk block Congress committee. Addressing the people, party leaders Maya Trivedi, Shravan Sharma and others said people were still waiting for ‘good days’ as promised by the NDA government and the Union government during past four years had failed totally to address the grievances of common people.

To register protest against the price hike, the Jiwajiganj and Madhav Nagar block Congress committee organised a dharna at Unhel Road, Bhairavgarh and Freeganj under the leadership of Mukesh Bhati and Ajit Singh Thakur, respectively.
