Patna : About 50,000 people attended the wedding ceremony of Tej Pratap Yadav, former minister and son of the RJD president Lalu Prasad at Veterinary College grounds near Patna airport on Saturday evening. Aishwarya Rai, daughter of Chandrika Prasad Rai, a former minister in Rabri Devi cabinet and grand daughter of former chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai, is bride.
The RJD president Lalu Prasad, who is on provisional bail, led the ceremonial baaraat party along with his younger son and former deputy chief minister, Tejashwi Yadav from his 10, Circular Road residence.
Though, the UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi were invited, they did not come. The AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, NCP general secretary, Prafulla Patel, former chief minister of UP, Akhilesh Yadav also joined the baaraat procession. Lalu had also invited West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, but she sent one of her ministers.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar came to bless the couple, but his deputy, Sushil Kumar Modi was absent though he too was invited by the groom personally.
Ramchandra Purvey, president of the state unit of RJD claimed 50000 people had dinner served on 32 platforms.
The baaraat ceremony from 10, Circular Road to Veterinary College campus, where once Lalu stayed as peon in the quarters before becoming the MP in 1977, consisted of all RJD legislators and MPs. Two elephants, horses and camels were part of the procession.
