Rare piece was a part of Ram-Setu
Ujjain: It is a divine treat for the pilgrims in the grand gathering of Simhastha Mahakumbh to witness the phenomenal stone that floats on water. Swami Doulat Giri of Shivgiri Sanyasi Ashram Faridabad, Delhi has displayed the miraculous stone at Dutt Akhara area. The piece has created acuriosity in thousands of the pilgrims passing by the hut of the saint. They take a glance of the rare bit and pay obeisance before it.
Saint Giri told Free Press, the stone belongs to Treta Yuga and it weighs 21 kg. It flows on water due to its divine quality. The stone was obtained by Swami Shiv Giri when he had visited Rameshwaram 70-80 years ago. Shiv Giri practised penance there and brought the stone to the Ashram. “This is one of the lakhs of pieces of stones which were laid by Lord Ram’s vanar sena when they had invaded Lanka to get Goddess Sita free from the trap of devil Ravana”, Giri added. Giri also said that devotees who had seen the miraculous stone in 2004 Simhastha Mahakumbhin Ujjain came to him and said that their wishes were fulfilled after a darshan. The drop of wateron which the stone floats is celestial and has power to treat patients suffering from incurable diseases.
What Science says?
On having a word with professor and head, School of Studies in Earth Science, Vikram University, Dr KN Singh explained to Free Press, “It is a reality that a stone of special kind floats on water. It is called ‘Pumice’. It is composed of highly micro-vesicular glass pyroclastic with very thin, translucent bubble walls of extrusive igneous rock. It is formed by the volcanic eruption called lava. The volcanic bombs are formed when a volcano ejects viscous fragments of lava during an eruption. Gas gets trapped in these bombs and cools down. It appears like porous rock. Due to the pores on its surface, its volume increases and allows the water to flow in and consequently it floats on water.”
