Rajya Sabha passes Juvenile Justice Bill

The upper house of Rajya sabha today successfully passed the Juvenile Justice Bill, after a marathon debate. The bill further lowers the Juvenile’s age to 16 years from the previous 18 years. Any criminal convict above 16 years of age will be punished according to the court of law.

The bill was taken up against the backdrop of uproar over release of juvenile convict in the heinous gangrape-cum-murder of a 23-year-old girl on December 16, 2012. We may not be able to do anything about the juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya case but we can deter many other boys from doing so, demanding for passage of Juvenile Justice Bill Maneka Gandhi said.

Bhujbal PMLA case: ED attaches Rs 110 crore assets

ED today attached assets worth Rs 110 crore belonging to a realty firm in connection with its money laundering probe against NCP leader and former Maharashtra PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal. . This is the third such action in this case by the ED after it had attached a plot worth Rs 160 crore of a realty firm and seized over Rs 17 crore assets of another firm embroiled in this case.
