Indore: Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) director RK Saxena here on Monday announced plans to offer nutritious meals on campus to students at subsidised rates. “We are going to start offering food on campus to our students and faculty members from April,” he told reporters on Monday, adding that the cost of one full-plate meal will be merely Rs 30.
“We have finalised the rates with the contractor. The facility would be started from April. Both hostellers and day scholars will get food at subsidised rates. Around 1000 students will be provided with food daily,” he said. The plan to start dining facility at the institute came after some students fell ill due to consumption of unhealthy food. “We thought of feeding our children nutritious food and that’s how the idea of starting dining facility came to us,” he said.
Barring few, all happy with food quality: IIT-I dir
IIT Indore director Pradeep Mathur reiterated that all students and faculty members, barring few, are happy with the food served to them at the institute. IIT Indore students have been protesting against Bhopal Caterers, which runs a dining facility on the institute campus, alleging that the caterer serves sub-standard and overpriced food to students. To a query, Mathur said that except for a few, nobody was having a problem with the Bhopal Caterers as well.
