Indore: Crorepati woman official of T&CP dept in Lokayukta net


Indore: Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided three premises of a senior woman official of town and country planning (T&CP) department and unearthed assets worth crores of rupees, which were disproportionate to her known sources of income.

In the wee hours, sleuths swooped down on establishments of Anita Kurathe, who is posted as deputy director of the department in the neighbouring Dewas district following a complaint that she amassed more unaccounted assets. She was earlier posted at Indore. During the raid, the sleuths discovered that she and her family members own immovable properties at many places in and around the city. The raids disclosed that Kurathes own six flats, including a penthouse in Shehnai Residency located near MR-9, three flats in Shagun residency, and two flats at Kanadia.

Besides, they have a farmhouse on 3000 sq ft land in Silver Valley on Bypass, three offices in Corporate House located near Regal Square, two shops at Shiv Kothi on MG Road, a farmhouse, seven acres of agriculture land in Mhow and a house in Old Ashok Nagar Bhopal.

It was also found that the official’s husband Jagdish Kurathe, who was a stenographer in T&CP department and took VRS some years back, is one of the partners in Papaya Tree hotel located on Rau Bypass. During raid on this farmhouse, documents pertaining to his partnership were also found.

“He is one of the partners of the hotel,” said Lokayukta police sources adding that the licence of the hotel’s bar is in the name of Jagdish. Lokayukta sleuths also found gold ornaments weighing 700 gram and silver ornaments weighing one kg. The estimated cost of the ornaments is Rs 22 lakh. FDR of Rs 45 lakh and 25 bank accounts in the names of family members of Kurathe were also traced.

“Rs 1.50 lakh cash in hand, two luxury cars, seven expensive watches, a gun and a sword were also found with Kurathes,” the sources said. Kurathe joined the government service in 1994 and the details of properties that have been unearthed are much more than her known sources of income, said Lokayukta police said. Detail investigations are on and further details are awaited.
