India, Iran welcome lease contract for Chabahar port operations

The contract is among 9 pacts to be inked after Indo-Iran talks

New Delhi : India inked nine pacts with Iran, including one on getting operational control of the first part of the Chabahar port for 18 months, after PM Narendra Modi and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani held “substantive” talks to broad-base ties in oil, gas and banking sectors. In their nearly two-hour-long talks, they also held extensive deliberations on pressing regional and global issues such as ways to combat terrorism.

Earlier, India and Iran signed nine Memorandums of Understanding (MoU)s following the delegation-level talks in the presence of PM Modi and Iranian President Rouhani. The agreements were signed in areas like double taxation avoidance, extradition, agricultural cooperation, port lease, medicine and others. Also Rouhani on Saturday gifted an animated version of Kalila wa Demna (Farsi translation of the Panchatantra) and a copy of the Mahabharata in Farsi to PM Modi.

New Delhi  : PM Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the new swanky BJP headquarters at 6A, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg on Sunday. The multi-storeyed building off Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, known as Delhi’s Fleet Street for housing the newspaper offices, gives a look of a top corporate office, fitted with all modern technologies. It will be for first time in the history of the 38-year-old saffron party that it would have a permanent address. The party headquarters functioned for decades from a government bungalow No 11 at Ashoka Road, a km from the Parliament House. Those working there, however, said they have been told to shift lock, stock and barrel to the new place latest by February 25. The new BJP HQ designed by a Mumbai-based architecture firm has been built in record time of seven months.
