New Delhi : The Congress created pandemonium in both Houses of the Parliament on the last day of the monsoon session on Friday, demanding a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the alleged irregularities in the purchase of French Rafale fighter aircraft.
Congress’ parliamentary party chief and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi led the party MPs’ protest under the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament House complex and later led the party stage a walkout from the Lok Sabha in the absence of Rahul Gandhi away in Raipur.
The Congress members rushed into the well in both Houses raising slogans for the JPC probe after Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad underlined in the Rajya Sabha that every defence scam is probed by the all-party JPCs and Congress group leader Mallikarjun Kharge asserted in the Lok Sabha that the government cannot pull curtain on the massive corruption of Prime Minister Modi.
A ruckus created by the Congress members over the issue during the Question Hour prompted Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn the Rajya Sabha to 2.30 PM when the House took up the private members’ business.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman Harivansh, in the Chair for the first day since his election on Thursday, adjourned the House six minutes before noon after managing most part of the Zero Hour with repeated remarks to the agitated members that whatever they say without his permission was not going on record.
Even as the Rajya Sabha continued with the private members’ business in the afternoon after Chairman Venkaiah Naidu restored peace by declaring that the controversial bill on triple talaq listed for debate will not be taken up, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned sine die the session that began on July 18.
I can make better Rafale: Cong MP
New Delhi: “I can make a better Rafale, please give me the contract.” This caustic remark attacking the BJP-led govt was
made in the Lok Sabha by Congress MP Rajesh Jakhar on Friday, before his party members staged a walkout after a noisy protest. Jakhar also waived a paper replica of the fighter aircraft during the Zero Hour as Congress members were in the Well raising slogans on the issue.
