Bhopal: ‘Violence, rioting led to firing’

BHOPAL: Home minister Bhupendra Singh has said that murderous assaults on policemen, rioting and violence had led to the firing at farmers at Mandsaur, adding social media was used to incite people to commit violence.

He also blamed ‘politically-motivated’ rumours for the protests turning violent. He said the movement was initially launched to demand waiver of loans and remunerative prices for farmers. He said the government had complete advance information on the activities of the farmers’ organisations and their plans.

He said vested interests had taken over the leader-less farmers’ agitation that led to violence. About the Mandsaur incident, he said clashes between traders and farmers also led to violence.  He said 109 cops were injured in the farmers’ agitation and property worth crores was destroyed. He said 325 cases had been registered in the incident.
