Bhopal: Four dozen miscreants held after Tuesday’s communal tension

Bhopal: Police arrested four dozen miscreants for trying to create panic in the city, in regard to Tuesday’s alleged communal tension. To secure the people, the controversial site has been sealed and since Wednesday morning no untoward incident was reported in the area. Some three days back a rumour spread in the city that in an under constructed section of Hamidia Hospital a mosque and a Shiva temple had come in light during excavations.

Tension prevailed when a group of people wanted to perform namaz and the other group wanted to organise Maha-arti at the controversial site, on Tuesday evening. The groups came face to face and pelted stones on each other, in which many people received injuries and public property was damaged.

ASP Rajesh Singh Bhadoria said in Tuesday’s ruckus, miscreants had damaged around 24 two-wheelers and four cars. The police have raised barricades around the hospital and are checking every visitor to the hospital. To maintain security in the area around 2,000 cops including personnel of Rapid Action Force has been deputed.

Since Wednesday morning, the market opened as usual. Although some panic was in air and fewer shoppers were seen, shopkeepers remained at their shops and did routine business.10
