Bhopal: It seems that since the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has been given the responsibility to investigate the e-tendering scam- the department is under immense pressure of the government as the department have banned media from its section which is investigating the scam.
However, additional director general of economic offences wing, V Madhukumar told Free Press “The area is sensitive nobody is permitted to enter the area without prior permission and anyone wanted to meet, they can come to my office.”
The EOW is investigating the alleged Rs 1000 crore e-tendering scam in Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam Maryadit (MPJNM). Three tenders are under especially under the scanner in the scam: two projects of Rajgarh worth Rs 656 crore and one in Satna district worth Rs 138 crore.
All three tenders have been cancelled after it was revealed that there was tampering in the tendering process. The private company Tata Consultancy Services is also under scanner of the investigation agency. The department has not just banned media but also appointed a policeman to check the visitor’s identity- if any visitor is found to be from media or from a political party; they are not permitted to enter the area.
Few weeks ago, various irregularities were found in the tenders issued for projects of state water board, public health engineering and state road development corporation, but no complaint was made to the EOW, by the government.
EOW facing tough time
The MPJNM is not supporting the investigation. The officers of EOW have to make multiple calls to obtain desired information from the department. Though, EOW claims that they are well equipped to handle this case pertaining to cyber fraud. But experts believe that the department is having very few competent officers to handle this case.
