Gandhinagar : Former Gujarat Chief Minister who did not contest in the recently concluded state Assembly elections has been appointed Governor of neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, according to an announcement on Friday. “I have no idea about anything as yet, please forgive me”, she said when asked by media persons at a social function tonight.

She is expected to take over from Gujarat Governor O P Kohli, who is holding additional charge of MP. She will be the second senior party leader from the state to have been appointed as governor after Vajubhai Vala who was appointed governor in Karnataka after Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister in 2014.

Born on November 21, 1941, Anandiben has been a BJP member since 1987.

She took over as Gujarat’s 15th chief minister on May 23, 2014, on her predecessor Narendra Modi’s move to Delhi as Prime Minister of India. She had to quit from her position in little over two years in October of 2016 following the rebellious stirrings in her own patidar community.
