Indore: UGC to prepare list of varsities violating PhD order


Indore: University Grants Commission has decided to prepare a list of universities that are violating its order of uploading data pertaining to PhD scholars on their respective websites.

In a letter addressed to vice chancellors, UGC secretary Jaspal S Sandhu said: “This is in continuation of my earlier letter dated September 27, 2016 regarding maintaining the data pertaining to PhD scholars on the website of university. The Commission, in its meeting held on February 22, has decided to request all the universities to upload data regarding PhD on their website on the parameters in a prescribed format.”

“You are, therefore, requested to undertake this exercise of within two months and send a link to UGC through email,” Sandhu told VCs.

He also informed them that the UGC would maintain a list of defaulting universities on its website provided some universities fail to undertake the exercise of uploading the data mentioned above.

In a move to bring in more transparency to doctoral research degree programme, UGC has directed universities across the country, including Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), to upload details of PhD candidates on their respective websites.

The UGC had stated the universities are required to maintain records of registered PhD and MPhil candidates as per PhD/MPhil Regulations-2016 which came into force on July 5.

As per the clause 5.6 of these regulations, the university shall maintain the list of all the MPhil/PhD registered students including name of the registered candidate, topic of his/her research, name of supervisor/co-supervisor, date of enrolment/registration on its website on year-wise basis.
