Pithampur: In order to rein on quacks in industrial town Pithampur of Dhar district, district administration and local police launched a massive crackdown here on Wednesday and arrested two quacks.

As a part of the drive, an administration team raided four clinics being operated by quacks and sealed the places. Cases have also been lodged against the accused persons for putting lives of thousands of residents of Pithampur and its adjoining areas at stake.

Sub-divisional officer Bhavya Mittal and team of administrative officials raided clinics of Dr BK Vishwas, SK Vishwas, Rai Clinic and JP Avsiya. The team also arrested two quacks from the places. A quack, who attempted to flee from police jeep, was later arrested with the help of local people. The team also recovered a large quantity of illegal medicines from their clinics.

Later police registered cases against quacks under relevant section of Madhya Pradesh Medical Council Act 1987 and Indian Penal Code. According to information, more than 150 quacks have been operating in all three sectors of Pithampur. These quacks have a large clientele since they charge low fees in most cases. They charge less than Rs 50 for everything, including consultation fees and medicines and a number of low-income factory workers visit them for this very reason.
