Dewas: The Madhya Pradesh government’s ‘lado campaign’ to prevent child marriage started getting its dividend as mass marriage function organised by Yadav community at Bhoransa and Bagli village allowed couple to enter wedlock only after confirming their age.
Madhya Pradesh government launched Lado Abhiyan in 2013 to prevent child marriages and make people aware of the Prevention of Child Marriage Act of 2006 in the state in both urban and rural areas of the state.
The campaign against child marriages is run throughout the year. District administration constituted several vigilance teams to keep eye on mass marriages in the district, particularly on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya.
According to information, 20 family members and 28 couples had registered for mass marriage here at Bhoransa and Bagli village. Organisers allowed couples to enter wedlock only after their family members submitted relevant documents pertaining age proof. Patidar community members also followed the same step.
Senior members of community said, “We are fighting against this ill tradition as it is ruing several kids’ future and this is only step towards achieving our goal”. District administration officials also praised community members’ efforts and asked others to follow this example to eradicate child marriages from society.
