Indore: In a dramatic change of events on Wednesday, minutes after Dinesh Khandelwal took charge as chairman of public participation committee of Government Holkar Science College, state government cancelled his appointment. Though the government did not disclose the reason behind his removal, sources claimed that Khandelwal was withdrawn from Holkar College following a complaint lodged by college staff against him added by Indore-3 MLA Usha Thakur expressing his discontent over his appointment.

Following the cancellation, Khandelwal has been moved to Government College, Rau, where he will however hold the same position. Through an order dated October 9, the department of higher education (DHE) had appointed Khandelwal as the new chairman of public participation committee of Holkar College. He was appointed in place of Surendra Singh Chhabra, who was made chairman at the college about three months ago. However, with Khandelwal getting chairmanship at Holkar College, Chhabra was shifted to Government College, Rau.

It was learnt that Chhabra was very upset over his removal from the leading science college of the state and reportedly had expressed his discontent with BJP bigwigs in the state. Indore-3 MLA from BJP, Usha Thakar too had expressed her displeasure over appointment of Khandelwal at Holkar College. She reportedly had informed higher education minister Jaibhan Singh Pawiya that Khandelwal had previously held the position of chairman in public participation committee at Holkar College, but he was withdrawn from the position in 2014 following opposition by college staffers against him.

“She informed the minister that return of Khandelwal to the college will create conflict between him and staffers and requested the minister to avoid such a situation,” sources claimed. Employees of the college also lodged complaint against Khandelwal with DHE and requested the department officials to withdraw him from college. With the MLA and college staffers lining up against Khandelwal, the government shifted Khandelwal from Holkar College to Government College, Rau.
